The vessel was made of opaque glass of a dark violet or purple colour. The glass worker painted it in silvery lustre with a design of birds in stylised vegetation. A similar glass sherd was found at Fustat (Old Cairo) in Egypt. Glass workers probably made wares of this type in Egypt in the Fatimid period (969-1171).","physicalDescription":"This fragment is from the centre of a vessel made of opaque glass of a dark violet or purple colour.
