Stereotype casts were\r\nissued in printers' specimen books from the 1790s onwards and\r\nafter the 1830s electrotypes were used. Even in the early specimen\r\nbooks, coats of arms were offered in a range of different sizes and \r\nstyles. Some coats of arms were fine examples of a wood engraver's \r\nskill and often the animals were full of character and vigour.
