This celadon-glazed cup stand dates to the early 1100s as suggested by its delicately incised design and the absence of sanggam inlay, which did not begin to be used on ceramics until the mid-1100s. The stand and cup shown here have been paired from two separate sets. \r\n\r\nThe bevelled cup rests on a wide, saucer-shaped stand with a high foot and a central support modelled as a lotus. Cups and stands of this type seem to have been modelled on Korean or Chinese silver prototypes and during the Koryo period, this was one of the most popular shapes for wine cups","physicalDescription":"The stand has incised designs of scrolled motifs under a celadon glaze. The rim has small notches at regular intervals round its perimeter.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"celadon","id":"AAT15100"},{"text":"stoneware","id":"x30197"}],"techniques":[{"text":"thrown","id":"AAT53908"},{"text":"incised","id":"AAT53847"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stoneware, thrown, incised and glazed","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Stoneware","id":"THES48890"}],"styles":[{"text":"Koryo","id":"AAT134127"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2011ET7662","2006AU4930","2011ER1164"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"CA022","id":"THES413431"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Stand","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"No","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Korea","id":"x30965"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1100-1150","earliest":"1100-01-01","latest":"1150-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"10.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Purchased from Messrs.
