Although Hous'hill was\r\ndemolished in the 1930s, this wardrobe, which was made by Francis Smith, was\r\nsold at auction at Sotheby's.\r\n\r\nThe drawing shows the front of the wardrobe and a fragment of the side elevation\r\nat the top right corner.  An enlarged detail of the decoration of the left hand edge\r\nappears below which incorporates glass inlays and wood panels.  According to an\r\ninscription, Mackintosh once considered ebony for these inlaid panels.  The\r\ndrawing is in fact a rare example of a Mackintosh furniture design representing \r\nboth the whole object and details of the decoration.  It is fully annotated by \r\nMackintosh with notes on construction.  Indeed, the built wardrobe corresponds\r\nvery closely to the drawing, the joinery and dimensions varying slightly from the\r\ndesign.","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null}}],"partNumbers":["E.109-1994"],"accessionNumberNum":"109","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":1994,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-09-15","recordCreationDate":"2009-04-01","availableToBook":false}}
