It was part of an elaborate centrepiece in Chinese taste modelled by the chief modeller at the factory J.J. Kändler for King Augustus III's influential first minister, Count Heinrich von Brühl. \r\n\r\nThis example was left white, probably as it suffered some firing damage during manufacture. A few coloured examples survive, one in the Dresden Museum shows the accompanying pieces designed with it, namely an elaborate stand, two sugar shakers modelled as embracing Chinese couples, oil and vinegar bottles shaped as Chinese man and a lady riding a hen and a cockerel, and a pair of Chinese figures holding shell-shaped spice holders.","physicalDescription":"Lemon basket of hard-paste porcelain, of lozenge shape modelled in high relief, the rim deeply indented, raised on four feet, those in the centre of each side shaped as lions' paws, the ends with scrolling cornucopias containing trailing flowers surmounted by eagles with outstretched wings, the centre of both sides applied with a pair of grimacing Chinese figures, one holding up a small parasol.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Kändler, Johann Joachim","id":"A6734"},"association":{"text":"modeller","id":"AAT25417"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Brühl, Heinrich von (Count)","id":"A25517"},"association":{"text":"patron","id":"AAT115251"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Meissen porcelain factory","id":"A9173"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"hard paste porcelain","id":"AAT10663"}],"techniques":[{"text":"moulded","id":"x30076"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Hard-paste porcelain","categories":[{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"},{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[{"text":"Chinoiserie","id":"AAT21167"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2008BT0227","2017JX3765"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"145 (VA)","id":"THES49865"},"free":"","case":"11","shelf":"3","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Tureen","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Meissen","id":"x35076"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1737","earliest":"1737-01-01","latest":"1737-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by C.
