The shape is roughly an upright rectangle with a triangular upper section rising to a point. Made of fritware painted under the glaze in black and blue on a white ground. The main feature is an inscription in bold <i>nasta'liq</i> hand of uneven quality, in black. The five lines record the name and death date of the deceased in Arabic. In the triangular space above the inscription is a depicition of personal objects that may have been owned by the deceased (and represent his status an educated man). At the top is a turban on a stool. Below and to the right is a combined pen case and inkwell. Below and to the left is a dagger or knife. Below is a floral scroll of Chinese inspiration. There is border painted in blue on white with a diaper pattern interrupted by rosettes. Dated 1601.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"fritware","id":"x29419"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Fritware with decoration painted under the glaze","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[{"text":"Kubachi","id":"AAT21725"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"MES","id":"THES48607"},"images":["2006BK9410","2014GY0364","2014GY0365","2014GY0363","2017JY2167"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137 (VA)","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"29","shelf":"8","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Tile","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Iran","id":"x30220"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"Isfahan","id":"x28926"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"probably"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1601","earliest":"1601-01-01","latest":"1601-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"The deceased died in March or April 1601"}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"52.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"28.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"وفات المرحوم المبرور\r\nالمغفور شیخ احمد مافنابادی\r\nفی تاریخ شهر رمضان \r\nالمبارک سنه تسع\r\nوالف من الهجریّه","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"The death of the one taken unto [God's] mercy and accepted into [His] grace,\r\none granted forgiveness [by his Lord], Shaykh Ahmad Maf...nabadi\r\n[occurred] in the month of Ramadan\r\nthe Blessed of the year 1009 since the Hijrah.","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"The last name of Shaykh Ahmad has not been read convincingly.
