If so, it would only have been on special occasions.  The bright colour which it still retains is due to the pure gold sheet wrapped around the weft threads.  It would always have been an expensive and luxurious object.\r\n\r\nIt was bought for £1 8s. as part of the Castellani collection of Italian Peasant Jewellery at the International Exhibition, Paris, 1867.","physicalDescription":"Sash made of yellow thread interwoven with gold.
