The main decoration is a calligraphic composition in relief, based on religious texts written in a form of Kufic (New Style; inscriptions 1 and 3) and the naskh style (inscriptions 2 and 4), all painted cobalt blue. On the left side there are the remains of a raised border, also painted blue, while the inner border framing inscriptions 3 and 4 is painted turquoise, with a pattern in lustre. The leafy scrolls in the background are also highlighted in turquoise, with details in lustre. The lustre background pattern is stippled in white, presumably in imitation of punched background patterns on precious metal. The composition consists of two complex arches, one nested within the other. The outer arch is formed from the first word of a Qur'anic quotation written in Kufic (see inscription 1), with the rest of the quotation set in the \"spandrels\" of the arch. The top section of this arch encloses the first half of the Shahadah (inscription 3). Below this a second Qur'anic quotation, in the naskh style (inscription 2), runs around three sides of a square, enclosing the second part of the Shahadah (inscription 3), which begins with the word Muhammad. This name is written twice, in positive and negative forms, and the last letters are extended to form the inner arch motif. Below the Shahadah is the beginning of a third Qur'anic quotation (inscription 4).","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"fritware","id":"x29419"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Fritware, glazed and painted in cobalt blue and lustre","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Islam","id":"THES48932"},{"text":"Tiles","id":"THES48884"}],"styles":[{"text":"Il-Khanid","id":"AAT21562"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"MES","id":"THES48607"},"images":["2010EB7374"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"137","id":"THES49876"},"free":"","case":"WN","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Tile","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Kashan","id":"x30242"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1250-1300","earliest":"1250-01-01","latest":"1300-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"78.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"54.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Weight","value":"64","unit":"kg","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"weighed in current frame"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"1.\r\nفسيكفيكهم الله وهو السميع العليم","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"And God will suffice thee against them; and He is the Hearer, the Knower.","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"This is a quotation from the Qur'an, from the surah al-Baqarah (II, verse 137).
