A plotter is a mechanical device that holds a pen or brush and is linked to a computer that controls its movements.\r\n\r\nThe computer program was based on a series of decision making processes that were used to structure the image.  The artist deliberately wrote random variables into the program to allow the computer to make certain choices of its own from a given number of options. \r\n\r\nMohr began life as an expressionist painter and jazz musician but in the 1960s began exploring geometric form, and moved towards a more objective, systematic way of working that anticipated his use of the computer. Mohr underpins his computer programs, or algorithms, with precise mathematical logic.  The computer enables Mohr to create very complex algorithms which would otherwise be too difficult and time consuming for humans to process.","physicalDescription":"Black and white offset lithograph on paper, mounted on board.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Mohr, Manfred","id":"A21694"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper (fiber product)","id":"AAT14109"},{"text":"lithographic ink","id":"AAT187750"}],"techniques":[{"text":"offset lithography","id":"AAT192900"},{"text":"plotter drawing","id":"x43893"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Offset lithograph on paper","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Computer Art","id":"THES49037"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2008BT5090"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLE","id":"THES49657"},"free":"","case":"CAS","shelf":"4","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":"AAT41273"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Paris","id":"x29068"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1970","earliest":"1970-01-01","latest":"1970-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the Computer Arts Society, supported by System Simulation Ltd, London","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"41.0","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"41.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'10/40'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Edition number, in pencil, in lower left side."},{"content":"'Mohr 70'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Artist's signature and date, in pencil, in lower right side."}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Black and white offset lithograph, 'P-62 (floating points)', 1970, by Manfred Mohr.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.186-2008"],"accessionNumberNum":"186","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2008,"otherNumbers":[{"type":{"text":"Previous owner's number","id":"THES57329"},"number":"CAS/A/0053"}],"copyNumber":"10 of 40","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-20","recordCreationDate":"2009-03-17","availableToBook":false}}
