They made them during the period that Rie shared her London studio with Coper. Coper had no previous experience of making pots when he joined the workshop in 1946. However, he was naturally talented and soon shared the Albion Street studio on an equal footing. This set has the impressed seal marks of both potters. Rie designed the pieces, but Coper apparently glazed them, as Rie has stated that she would have applied a narrower band of cream glaze.","physicalDescription":"Jug and two beakers, stoneware, each decorated with a brown manganese glaze on their lower part, and a white glaze on their upper part.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Rie, Lucie","id":"A2766"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Stoneware","id":"x30197"}],"techniques":[{"text":"throwing (pottery technique)","id":"AAT53908"},{"text":"glazing (coating)","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stoneware, manganese and white glazes","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Studio Pottery","id":"THES48889"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2006AN8275","2010DE5426","2009CP3053","2009CC4608"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"142 (VA)","id":"THES49868"},"free":"","case":"4","shelf":"2","box":""},{"current":{"text":"142 (VA)","id":"THES49868"},"free":"","case":"4","shelf":"2","box":""},{"current":{"text":"141S","id":"THES49869"},"free":"","case":"14","shelf":"1","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Jug","id":""}],[{"text":"Beaker","id":""}],[{"text":"Beaker","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1950 - 1955","earliest":"1950-01-01","latest":"1955-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"26.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"jug","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"17.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"jug","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"11.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"beaker part A","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"8.1","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"beaker part A","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"11.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"beaker part B","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"8.0","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"beaker part B","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'LR' and 'HC' in monogram, applied","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"Puchased from Lady Semphill, Sudbury.
