At first, the company focused on mosaics, but this is a rare example of its early blown glass, based on historic Venetian styles. Salviati showed similar pieces at the London 1862 exhibition and eventually opened showrooms in London, New York, Paris, St Petersburg and Frankfurt.\n\nItaly, Venice; designed and made by Salviati & Co.\nGlass, free-blown using dip moulds, with applied and tooled decoration; metal mounts\n\nMuseum no. 9042-1863'","date":{"text":"08/06/2017","earliest":"2017-06-08","latest":"2017-06-08"}},{"text":"CANDELABRUM\r\n\r\n     Salviati & Co.\r\n\r\n    Manufacturers\r\n\r\n  Venice: about 1860\r\nClear and coloured glass\r\n\r\nThe Museum bought this candelabrum in 1863 for £8 from a relatively new firm, founded by Antonio Salviati (1816-1890). Salviati employed some of the best technicians and glass-workers of the time, concentrating at first on the revival of Renaissance and Baroque styles.
