It was shown in Leach's Arts Council retrospective in 1961, having been recommended for inclusion by George Wingfield Digby, and was subsequently given to the museum. In a letter to Miss Madeleine Whyte (donor of the bowl) of 14 April 1961, Leach writes of the bowl: 'Yes I still like it: I only did one of that sort.' In A Potter's Work (1967), pl.26, he describes its decoration as 'the memory of a Korean woman beating her washing in the rocky bed of a stream'. The museum possesses a later ink-wash drawing by Leach of the same subject (E.1203-1978).","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Bowl, 'Korean washerwoman', porcelain, Bernard Leach, St Ives, 1931","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Watson, Oliver. British Studio Pottery : the Victoria and Albert Museum Collection, Oxford : Phaidon, Christie's, in association with the Victoria and Albert Museum, 1990","id":"AUTH351364"},"details":"","free":""},{"reference":{"text":"Graves, Alun. Studio Ceramics : British Studio Pottery 1900 to Now.
