Rather than casting her in a scene from literature, Cameron presents her as a reader lost in thought, perhaps imagining the story she has just been reading. Cameron experimented radically with focus to create her suggestive images. Here she rendered the sitter softly while focusing sharply on the lamp and the flame. \r\n\r\nAlbumen print\r\nMuseum no.
