This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.\nIn China the dragon is a much revered and feared beast, one of the twelve animals of the zodiac. Dragons are often linked with the emperors of China, and are shown on many things made for the court, like this 18th century vase. But many dragon legends connected with fertility and rain were known by ordinary people. An object with a dragon on it may refer to one of these stories instead.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Vase, porcelain painted in underglaze blue and copper-red, China, Qing dynasty, 18th century","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"Label","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"dragons","id":"x30096"},{"text":"clouds","id":"x30091"},{"text":"pearl","id":"AAT11827"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["C.978-1910"],"accessionNumberNum":"978","accessionNumberPrefix":"C","accessionYear":1910,"otherNumbers":[{"type":{"text":"","id":""},"number":"Loan no. 2348"}],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-11","recordCreationDate":"2009-02-27","availableToBook":false}}
