She was inspired by ancient Mediterranean ceramics, and by the work of modernist potters such as Lucie Rie and Hans Coper.\r\n\r\nConstantinidis threw this bottle on a wheel and then cut out a section from the base, allowing her to flatten the whole form. She used a lustrous metallic finish to enhance the sculptural quality of the vessel.","physicalDescription":"Bottle, flattened form, stoneware, iridescent copper-gold saltglaze.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Constantinidis, Joanna","id":"A2663"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Stoneware","id":"x30197"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stoneware, thrown and altered, with iridescent copper-gold salt glaze","categories":[{"text":"Images Online","id":"THES48937"},{"text":"Studio Pottery","id":"THES48889"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2006AN8255"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"143 (VA)","id":"THES49867"},"free":"","case":"29","shelf":"1","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Bottle","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Essex","id":"x29455"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1983","earliest":"1983-01-01","latest":"1983-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Depth","value":"25.50","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"52.00","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'C'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"impressed","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"impressed"}],"objectHistory":"Acquisition details: Henry Rothschild Associates, Ltd, Cambridge\n\nRF number: 83/1194","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Bottle, flattened form by Joanna Constantinidis, stoneware, Britain, 1983.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Watson, Oliver. <i>British Studio Pottery : the Victoria and Albert Museum Collection</i>, Oxford : Phaidon, Christie's, in association with the Victoria and Albert Museum, 1990","id":"AUTH351364"},"details":"","free":""}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["C.211-1983"],"accessionNumberNum":"211","accessionNumberPrefix":"C","accessionYear":1983,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-11","recordCreationDate":"2000-01-14","availableToBook":false}}
