It appears that that this object was made for Mr Fujii Sekido (of the publishing company Bijutsu Nippo-sha) who offered it to a Mr Okada Shoha along with a scroll painting. Mr Fujii points out in his letter that only two versions of this pigeon were ever made and that the other is in the collection of the Emperor (Hirohito) and was displayed at the Kishu Palace. Subsequent enquiries at the Sannomaru Shozokan (The Museum of the Imperial Collections) in Tokyo have, to date, failed to reveal the whereabouts of this other version of the object.","physicalDescription":"Fan tailed pigeon in Art-Deco style with box and wrapping cloth.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Nakajima, Yasumi","id":"A24628"},"association":{"text":"designer and maker","id":"x34662"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Cast and silvered bronze","categories":[{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"}],"styles":[{"text":"Showa","id":"AAT18568"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2015HL8237","2015HL8238","2015HL8239"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES394793"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES398920"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES398920"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES398920"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"figure","id":""}],[{"text":"pigeon","id":""}],[{"text":"box","id":""}],[{"text":"lid","id":""}],[{"text":"wrapping cloth","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Japan","id":"x29399"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1934","earliest":"1934-01-01","latest":"1934-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Brian Harkins","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Weight","value":"4.75","unit":"kg","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Sculpture of a fan-tailed pigeon, Yasumi Nakajima, Japan, 1934","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Fan-tailed pigeon\r\n1934\r\n\r\nIn 1925, Nakajima Yasumi was a juror for the Japanese section of the Exhibition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in Paris, which gave Art Deco its name.
