The unit consists of a desk and chair, each with legs slotted into a wooden stand with cross pieces and reinforced with curved wooden brackets.  The desk legs are also bolted together with a hoop of metal at each side.\r\nThe desk has a hinged lid, an interior compartment for books and equipment, a hole for an inkwell, a groove across the back of the top to hold pens and pencils, and a recess to hold a drawing board.  \r\nThe chair has a plain top rail, and wooden brackets to strengthen the back stays.
