He has a 'coq gaulois' tied round his chest and holds a pear bearing the features of Louis-Philippe (the last King of France) in one hand and the monarch's emblem, the umbrella, in the other. In place of the reliefs of the Napoleonic campaign of 1805 is a list of Thiers’ ‘heroic’ achievements: the massacre of the Rue Transonain in 1834, the recent capitulation of Paris and the still more recent devastation of Neuilly and Courbevoie. Print from a set of caricatures, broadsheets and illustrations in ten volumes. Each volume is half-bound in red leather, gold tooled and stamped with imperial emblems, title etc.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"ED","id":"A24402"},"association":{"text":"caricaturist","id":"AAT25108"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Barousse","id":"A36547"},"association":{"text":"lithographer","id":"AAT25175"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"lithography","id":"AAT53271"},{"text":"hand-colouring","id":"AAT133555"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Hand-coloured lithograph on paper","categories":[{"text":"Caricatures & Cartoons","id":"THES48983"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC (VA)","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"GG","shelf":"207","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Paris","id":"x29068"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"x46159"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1870-1871","earliest":"1870-01-01","latest":"1871-12-31"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"x46159"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"29.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"17.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Dimensions from: Lambert, Susan. <u>The Franco-Prussian War and The Commune in Caricature 1870-71</u>. catalogue of a collection of prints in the possession of the Department of Prints and Drawings of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
