He was extremely unpopular on account of his Bonapartist past and because, having led the First Army of the Loire to disaster at Orléans, he was branded as the man who had failed to rescue Paris. A Paladin was a knight of Charlemagne's court. With a pun on the General's title, Klenck suggests his connections with an Empire created some 1,000 years later.\r\n\r\nLithograph, coloured by hand.
