Although Krupp's revolutionary steel breech-loading cannon was superior in range and accuracy to any muzzle-loading guns used by the French it was not adopted in France. In 1868 Herr Krupp brought it to the attention of the French Government but no action was taken, as Leboeuf was unable to accept that steel guns could be as reliable as the traditional bronze cannon.\r\n\r\nLithograph, coloured by hand.
