She was a great patron of the arts, surrounding herself with artists, writers and intellectuals, and commissioning work and collecting jewellery, such as cameos and intaglios.\r\n\r\nJohn Sigismund Tanner was medallist and engraver to the London Mint for nearly forty years. He was a native of Saxe-Gotha and came to England in 1728.
