Resembling jade, they were admired for their tranquil beauty. They were often used in Buddhist tea ceremonies and meditation rituals. \r\n\r\nAlthough some were made in northern China, green-glazed wares remained a speciality of the south. Green-glazed vessels were exported in large quantities to South-east Asia and the Middle East; this small jar was produced at the Longquan kilns in Zhejiang province, but found in the Philippines. Later European collectors gave these wares the fanciful name of ‘celadon’.","physicalDescription":"Jarl, with ovoidal body, brief neck and rolled lip; slightly concave base. Stoneware with a grey-green celadon glaze, which stops at the line of the inset foot. Decorated in moulded relief round the shoulder with a scroll of chrysanthemum, lotus, peony and camellia blossoms.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"stoneware","id":"x30197"},{"text":"celadon","id":"AAT15100"}],"techniques":[{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"},{"text":"moulded","id":"x30076"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stoneware with relief decoration and green glaze","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Stoneware","id":"THES48890"}],"styles":[{"text":"Yuan","id":"AAT18436"},{"text":"Longquan","id":"x44562"},{"text":"Celadon","id":"x43845"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2008BR9681"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"145 (VA)","id":"THES49865"},"free":"","case":"31","shelf":"2","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"JAR","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Zhejiang","id":"x29912"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"14th century","earliest":"1300-01-01","latest":"1400-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Sir John Addis, K.C.M.G.","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"5.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Jarl, stoneware with moulded floral decoration under green 'celadon' glaze, Longquan ware, Zhejiang, China, Yuan dynasty, 14th century","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"chrysanthemums","id":"x30170"},{"text":"lotus","id":"x35852"},{"text":"peony","id":"x30070"},{"text":"camellia","id":"x36338"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Celadon jar, acquired in the Philippines\r\nSouthern China, Longquan kilns, 1300-1400\r\nMuseum nos.
