At the height of her fame, King was one of the highest paid music hall stars, performing in the UK and USA. King achieved remarkable longevity with her act, continuing to perform into her 80s.\r\n\r\nRising to fame in the early twentieth century, King’s act impersonated the ‘swell’ male stereotype and through the First World War she performed as either a solider or sailor, entertaining troops in France and Belgium. In the era before recorded music, King was associated with successful songs through the sale of sheet music, and she performed her signature song ‘Ship Ahoy! (All the Nice Girls Love a Sailor)’ throughout her career.","physicalDescription":"Typographic poster","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Electric Modern Printing Co.
