Concerned for the brand’s new interns, who had worked hard to get the opportunity of work experience in the studio and now found themselves at home, Jeffrey designed these suits as a craft project that the label’s interns could work on remotely. Jeffrey wished to commemorate what he felt was important at this period: community, health, and hope. Looking to pagan traditions of costume, performance, ritual, and symbolism, he personified these key words into figures.\r\n\r\nThe ‘Hope’ suit was made by Rosa Kampinga. Writing in 2025, Kampinga remembered and what it meant at the time: “I have really fond memories of working on Dave. It was during a time when my everyday routine was disrupted. This project gave me reason to wake up in the morning and to be motivated about creating something positive in a time that was very uncertain and ominous. It meant a lot to have these weekly video call updates and to cheer each other on. I never experienced this amount of positivity in a creation process before, and it completely changed my view of how such a process should be approached. The finished pieces were very powerful to me. I delivered the embroidered panels, but I could not imagine how the end result would look like. They transformed in these statuesque characters that really embodied our journey. The pictures captured the playfulness and joy that we experienced while making these pieces and made them come to life. The techniques that we used in our embroideries have inspired my own ideas on embroideries that I use in my own work a lot but the most important lesson for me is the approach of creating with positivity and joy, and to stimulate community and a feeling of belonging”.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"'Hope' suit of cotton drill with applique panels, Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY, Sping/Summer 2021, London","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"Unique","id":"THES48864"},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["T.45:1-2026","T.45:2-2026","T.45:3-2026","T.45:4-2026","T.45:7-2026","T.45:5-2026","T.45:6-2026","T.45:8-2026"],"accessionNumberNum":"45","accessionNumberPrefix":"T","accessionYear":2026,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-04-13","recordCreationDate":"2025-11-26","availableToBook":false}}
