Her eponymous brand, Annaiss Yucra, has a signature style that is colourful, multi-layered and rich with exuberant pattern and texture. Yucra’s designs are deeply influenced by Peruvian culture and materials, particularly textiles. Her grandmother was a textile artist, and her parents own a cotton factory, meaning she ‘grew up in an environment full of color, fabrics, customs and heritage.’ Yucra speaks proudly of her indigenous roots, regularly incorporaing indigenous Peruvian crafts, stories and values into her contemporary designs.\r\n\nThe <i>Raffia</i> ensemble was presented as part of the Annaiss Yucra Spring-Summer 2025 collection <i>Castiza</i> – a racial category used in 18th century Spanish America to refer to people who were three-quarters Spanish by descent and one-quarter indigenous. Through the collection Yucra confronts issues of racism, migration and belonging, commenting on the barriers faced by the children of indigenous Peruvian people, such as herself. Drawing from her own experience, the collection is highly personal. \n\nThe complete ensemble includes the <i>Raffia Maxi Puffer</i> jacket, the <i>Raffia</i> catsuit, the <i>Castiza</i> heels, three <i>Raffia</i> bags and the <i>Tech Orchid</i> earrings. The jacket, catsuit, shoes and bags feature an all over print based on the large woven raffia bags commonly used by migrants across Latin America, transforming them into 'a manifesto of resilience.' The recognisable print that 'carries the hope of reaching a new country, now sublimated into a symbol of pride.’ While designing the collection, Yucra asked herself ‘how do you weave a hug?’ seeking to design a garment that both protects from the cold and shelters suppressed histories. Yucra found her answer in Peruvian materials, filling puffer jackets with ALPAFILL®, a sustainable alternative to synthetic padding made from Peruvian alpaca fibres, developed by Hösėg. The resultant jacket’s design aligns with the contemporary trend for statement puffer jackets and coats, part of the more general rise of ‘athleisure’ and streetwear that has dominated high fashion since the 2010s. Here, the exaggerated collar, extended length, all-over print and placement of multiple pockets set the jacket apart from the ‘standard’ puffer jacket, elevating it from its utilitarian origins as a winter sportswear object to a fashion object. Elasticated sleeve cuffs and an oversized funnel neck guard against heat loss. The jacket fastens to the centre front with a concealed zipper, covered with a snap-fastened flap. Two large patch pockets with flaps have been applied at staggered levels towards the bottom of the jacket, along with two vertical, broad welt pockets placed at the sides just above the waist. Four additional oblong pouch pockets adorn the jacket: on the proper right hem and chest, and two at the proper left mid-section. Two of these are zippered, the remaining two have a small circular opening to the middle. To the reverse, a large patch with red text has been applied to the proper bottom left, reading: DESIGNED BY ANNAISS CUT BY VIOLETA SEWED BY TORIBIO CROCHET BY PANCHITA . The jacket's outer shell is digitally printed with a red, blue, white and pink checked pattern, mimicking the woven pattern of large market or laundry bags. The jacket is lined with red Peruvian cotton. \n\nThe catsuit covers the full body, enclosing feet and fingers, and has a hood. It is made of lycra, ensuring a close fit, and zips up the back. The catsuit is digitally printed with a distorted, wavy version of the red, blue, white and pink checked pattern used for the jacket. The shoes feature this same distorted print and are in a sling-back style with pointed toes and a low heel.\n\nThe ensemble has three matching bags, in large, medium and small sizes. The large and small bags are made of the same digitally printed red, blue, white and pink checked polyester as the jacket, while the medium bag is rendered in blue, white, yellow and pink and cut diagonally. Each bag features two self-fabric top handles, a zip fastening, and a central patch with the same text that appears on the jacket: DESIGNED BY ANNAISS CUT BY VIOLETA SEWED BY TORIBIO CROCHET BY PANCHITA.\n\nThe earrings have been 3D printed in the shape of an orchid using compostable PLA (biodegradable polymer), giving a glossy, striated finish. One pair is in a teal blue colour, the other deep pink.
