Ballets USA was founded in 1958 by American choreographer Jerome Robbins to showcase his choreography initially at the Festival of Two Worlds, Spoleto and the Brussels World Fair. Its success resulted in the group touring on and off until 1961. The company was significant for the melding of ballet and musical theatre dance, Robbins at this period was most widely known for his production of and choreography for musicals. The Company gave all the artists, a company of strong dancers, equal billing. Robbins said 'I believe very strogly that ballet dancing in America, originally an imported product..., has been completely influenced and drastically changed by the culture in which it has grown up....Ballets USA was planned to show Europeans the variety of techniques, styles and theatrical approached that are America's particular development in dance.' This poster advertises Ballets USA's second visit to London.
