The characters were first conceived in 2015 by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung, and his illustrations were developed into figurines in collaboration with Pop Mart, a company headquartered in Beijing. Labubu is the most popular of the Monsters series, a grouping inspired by Nordic mythology. This ‘Luck’ Labubu is from the Big Into Energy blind box series. Blind boxes conceal the exact item being sold and the format uses gamification and a system of odds to encourage buyers to seek out ‘secret’ and ‘chase’ variants.\r\n\r\nWithin a month of the Big Into Energy series release in the UK on 25 April 2025, shop sales were paused as demand outstripped supply.
