A clockwork music box on the stand plays the musical number 'All I Ask of You'.\n\nAndrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera opened to immediate success at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 1986. It has become one of the longest running musicals in the West End and on Broadway, where it ran from 1988 to 2023. Productions have been mounted globally and the show has toured worldwide. Dewynters produced the original marketing and conceived ranges of merchandise drawing on the key themes and imagery of the show.\n\r\nThe ‘Phantom mask’ is one of the most recognisable designs for musical theatre. Originally drawn by Dewynters creative director Russ Elgin and designer Bob King, the poster was created before the show design had been completed and features a horizontal mask across both eyes, rather than the vertical half mask used in the show to aid the performance. It has been used in marketing since the opening of the original production in 1986 and is the recognisable logo for the show across media.\n\r\nDewynters are a leading theatrical marketing agency based in London. Established in its current form in the late-1970s, the company is recognised for creating distinctive designs, campaigns and logos that have become synonymous with high-profile and long-running productions. Dewynters were a leader in developing merchandise, alongside marketing for popular theatre.","physicalDescription":"Moulded plastic picture frame with painted gold leaves to the perimeter.
