Images and statements selected by Carola Adams and Leah Thorn from their work with the participants, with further contributions from Madeley Young Women's Group (members Tracey, Diane, Sandra, Caroline and Jackie) designed with Graham Peet and Jonnie Turpie, printed by Flypress and Badger. Britain, 1981.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"The following reference was written by Graham Peet to share the process of how these posters were made with Carola Adams, Leah Thorn and members of the Madeley Young Women's  Group:\r\n\r\n'The poster designs were developed by the group based on transcribed conversations with young women by Carola Adams and Leah Thorn over several years of action research for a project investigating the risks of being young and being female. The project was funded by the government Department of Education and Science. A set of themes emerged from the conversations which resulted in 9 themed posters. Photographs were also chosen by the group. These were printed in black and white at life size and cut out to enable them to be experimented with by the group on A1 coloured backgrounds suitable for silkscreen printing. Similarly, Headline Titles were generated by the group to represent the poster theme. These were produced as paper cut lettering mounted on acetate. Smaller sub texts were painted in white type on acetate sheets as well to enable the elements of the posters design to be manipulated until the poster was judged by the young women to be bold and effective and importantly a true expression of their feelings. The cut out process also, importantly, enabled the young women to work on the designs without the presence of Graham Peet and Jonnie Turpie. They were only invoved when the designs were to be converted to print ready art work. The posters were printed at Flypress and Badger in Brixton because Telford Community Arts printshop didnt have the facilities to print at A1 size. A similar process was used with other poster sets produced by Jonnie Turpie and Graham Peet but the subject themes were generated with the groups involved without a seperate research project. These posters were the direct expression of the group.'"}],"production":"The group met at Madeley Community Arts Print Shop but the posters were printed by Flypress and Badger due to the size required.","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["E.72-2026"],"accessionNumberNum":"72","accessionNumberPrefix":"E","accessionYear":2026,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2026-04-24","recordCreationDate":"2025-10-15","availableToBook":false}}
