It is a tonal technique valued for its soft, velvety textures and dramatic contrasts as well as subtle gradations of light and dark tone. Absence is one of Sarah Gillespie's earliest mezzotints and exploits the medium to perfection. Her work encourages us to de-centre the human and refocus our gaze toward the everyday and the overlooked in the more-than human world: moths, blackbirds and winter-suns.
