Astral was known for their stylized telephones in specialty materials like faux hardwood and marble. In the 1970s, the company started to explore ceramic telephones, particularly with well-known brands. Alongside the Wedgwood jasperware phone, Astral collaborated with Royal Albert to create bone china handsets embellished with floral decorations. The company’s goal was to ‘revive the art of conversation.’ \r\n\r\nFor the Wedgwood telephone, the customer had the choice of either a pink or blue jasperware base and handset decorated with white reliefs. The choice of reliefs included those depicting ‘An Offering to Peace’ ‘The Floral Girls’ or ‘Venus and Cupid’ whilst the handset was always embellished with a floral motif. In addition, there was an option to have a push dial set. \r\n\r\nProduction of the telephones started from the late 1970s and continued to the mid-1990s. All came with a modular plug which connected customers to British and North American networks.
