Voysey. The body of the lamp stands on four metal feet, which was produced by William Bainbridge Reynolds. The glass used on the lamp is an opalescent blue glass and is like that used by James Powell & Sons of Whitefriars in the late 19th century. In the second-half of the 19th century, the firm developed close relationships with designers to supply glass for their designs. While it is not currently known if Whitefriars supplied the glass fittings for this lamp, they did provide glass for W.A.S. Benson’s designs, Voysey’s contemporary so it is possible that they worked with Voysey to execute his designs, as well. \r\n\r\nThis table oil lamp designed by C.F.A. Voysey and made by William Bainbridge Reynolds c.1899 is a good example of Voysey’s designs for functional and small-scale domestic goods. Voysey was one of the most influential architects and designers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A trained architect, his designs extended into the applied arts, which allowed him to create unified interiors. Voysey’s creations were characterised by their clarity of form, functional integrity and an absence of superfluous ornamentation. This lamp exemplifies how Voysey's architectural philosophy extended seamlessly into the realm of decorative arts, designing functional domestic goods that complemented and enhanced his architectural vision.\r\n\r\nVoysey understood the importance of designing functional domestic goods to create a cohesive interior. Examples of the lamp can be seen in various dwellings designed by Voysey in the late 19th and early 20th century, including in photographs of Holly Mount, Buckinghamshire, which are held by the RIBA. There are also several photographs of Voysey’s own home The Orchard in Hertfordshire, which include examples of this lamp. ","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"C.F.A.
