V&A East have been working with former residents and young people to develop oral histories, archives and objects that uncover stories about life on Robin Hood Gardens estate and experiences of social housing in East London.\r\n\r\nV&A East Robin Hood Gardens co-production programme aimed to extend the story of Robin Hood Gardens estate beyond the architectural and into the lived experiences of former residents and local communities. By centring these voices, this programme offers a model for institutional co-production and fields V&A East as a site for research into Britain’s contemporary housing crisis. The programme included a two-year oral-history project and a year-long programme with young people in East London, exploring themes of social housing, urbanism and gentrification through creative practice.\r\n\r\nThe co-production programme with former residents includes oral history interviews, a community archive consisting of material collected during the estate’s regeneration between 2007 to 2025, a public walking tour programme led by former resident and housing activist, Asma Begum. \r\n\r\nSeveral outputs emerged from workshops held as part of the V&A East Robin Hood young people’s co-production programme, including the production of a short film (Robin Hood: Past the Concrete), 7 objects, a publication (Robin Hood: The Arts of Occupation), featuring interviews, essays, poetry and recipes produced by the cohort.
