The tree is next to Croydon Road Recreation Ground’s ‘Bowie Bandstand’, where Lewis began creating the work. The title references David Bowie’s song, Starman, because Lewis was waiting for a friend who she was meeting.\r\n\r\nDrypoint is a printmaking technique where artists start by scoring lines into a surface, usually a metal or plastic printing plate, with a sharp, pointed tool. Tetrapak printing replaces the metal or plastic with cleaned and flattened Tetrapak cartons. Waiting for the Starman is scored into the inside surface of an oat milk carton, which is why there are creases and rectangular shapes in the work.
