Made up of elastic and fishnet. The fishnet is a range of textures and is designed in vertical panels. There are further elastic loops sewn onto the bottom of the legs, which can be looped around the feet. \n\r\n<b>Corset:</b>\r\nA black corset made up of fishnet textured panels. With a lace up front which ties with black elastic through gold metal eyelets. Has plastic boning in front and back. Has black fishnet shoulder straps. There are  loops of elastic attached to the bottom of the corset which could be looped under and through the wearers legs, to stop movement when performing. \r\n\r\n<b>Detachable Collar 1:</b>\nA cream coloured large detachable collar/chestpiece. Fastens around the neck with silver metal popper fastening, and also has a thick loop of elastic that would fit around the waist. The collar is a large oval shaped ribbed piece of cream material, trimmed with ruffles of cream organza. There are false black plastic round buttons running down the front centre.\r\n\r\n<b>Detachable Collar 2:</b>\r\nA black coloured large detachable collar/chestpiece. Fastens around the neck with silver metal popper fastening, and also has a thick loop of elastic that would fit around the waist. There are false cream plastic round buttons running down the front centre.\n\r\n<b>Jacket:</b>\r\nA black cropped bolero style jacket made of sheer chiffon. It has a pointed collar, and fastens with a single popper fastening at the front. Has plastic boning around the collar, cuffs and hems, giving it a stiff structured shape.\n\r\n<b>Sleeves:</b>\r\nOne plain black lyrca tube of material. Could have been a sleeve for arm or leg.\nOne thinner sleeve of black lyrca, with fishnet sections at each end. One of the fishnet sections has a hole cut out so that it could be worn over the fingers and thumb.\n\r\n<b>Glove:</b>\nA single black fingerless glove to be worn on the right hand. The palm of the glove is leather, while the top is made of a loose crochet black material. It can be tightened by a strap around the wrist which fastens with velcro. The glove is lined with navy suede.\r\n\r\n<b>Knee Pads:</b>\nSoft fabric knee pads. Made of dusky grey-blue synthetic stretchy fabric, which has been embroidered to give it a checkered square texture. The knee pads have thick foam inserts. They are lined with thick white fabric. \r\n\r\n<b>Boots:</b>\r\nBlack leather kitten heeled ankle boots with pointed toes. The heels of the shoes are metallic silver in colour. They lace up around the ankle with leather laces, which fasten through metal eyelets. Both shoes have pen handwriting inside the inner ankle of the shoe. In the 1970s, he became aquainted with choreographer Toni Basil, who had seen him performing in underground punk and LGBTQ+ clubs such as Peanuts in West Hollywood. When Toni Basil came to recruit a dance group for David Bowie's <i>Glass Spider </i>tour in 1987, she asked Manoel to audition. Manoel remembers that Toni Basil called him and said 'David watched your video…he just watched 30 seconds and he said who’s that guy? I want him on my tour'\n\nManoel recalled that Bowie told him he was going to '...  represent his shadow, his past, and his consciousness.' He also stated 'David was very much looking forward to my reaction when he showed me my wardrobe. He feared I wouldn’t want to wear it. When he showed it to me he said “I want you to be an androgynous cross between Jim Morrison, Prince and a Bullfighter” I want people to look at you and not be able to figure out who you are…what you are. I told him “Of course, I’ll wear the clothes, they won’t wear me”.'\r\n\r\nManoel's costume was designed by Diana Moseley. The sketch for this costume can be found in archive file DBA/2/1/18/2. The costume creates an androgynous look that references the contemporary LGBTQ+ culture and aesthetics of 1980s America through the use of fishnet, black leather and chiffon.
