It has wide pointed notched lapels, and no fastenings. It has several deep pockets over it, which fasten with small square tan leather buckles. Straps with these same buckles are also present around the cuffs, so that the coat could be tightened at the wrists (although the strap and buckle from the left wrist no longer remains). The skirt of the coat has a long vent slit up the back, and the  bottom hem contains small weights. There is a 'storm sheild' on the back of the coat in a rounded shape, which also fastens with buckles. The coat is unlined.
