Since the mid 1960s the Royal Mail\nhas issued special, decorated stamps. The artwork for Yvonne\nSkargon's Roses shows how allowance was made in the engraving \nfor its photomechanical reproduction. Colour separations were used\nfor the colour. Wood engraving is particularly suited to stamp book\ncovers which need to have a matt surface because of the mechanism\nof the vending machine.
