Made from a translucent parian body that sometimes approaches a dense stoneware in weight, Alcock's jugs are known for their distinctive colouring with lavender being one of the most popular colourways he produced. Alcock drew inspiration from a wide range of sources including classical sculpture, literature, popular engravings and popular culture.
