Russell’s method of piping coloured porcelain into an unsupported sculpture is a painstaking process involving the building of many layers over time. The lack of internal structure gives some of her forms a characteristic curve or lean. \r\n\nHer method speaks to ideas of the 'decorative' in relation to the feminine. Her sculptures are made using a purely decorative technique which is still enough for the form to support itself.
