Born in Birmingham, he is a fourth-generation silversmith. He established his business in 1998 and combines practice with teaching at De Montfort University, creating one-off functional and sculptural pieces in metal. \r\n\r\nHe completed a BA in Jewellery and Silversmithing at Sheffield Hallam University and an MA in 3D Design, Jewellery, Silversmithing and Allied Materials at the University of Birmingham in 2000 and over the last twenty-five years has developed an international reputation for his work. His work is in the permanent collection of institutions including National Museum of Wales in Cardiff, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and Cartwright Hall in Bradford. In 2005 he was commissioned to create silverware for the Government of India and his work has been shown in exhibitions including at Koldinghus Museum, Denmark, 13th Silver Triennial in Germany, Side by Side- Edge to Edge in Finland and as part of Silver Speaks at the V&A. Rajesh is a Freeman of the Goldsmiths’ Company and gained Freedom of the City of London in 2013. \r\n\r\nHis work draws inspiration from his British and Indian heritage and he has a keen interest in historical and functional silverware. Tea drinking is a social custom that often, and across many cultures, carries themes of ritual. For many, the teapot sits at the forefront of the ‘ceremony’. For Rajesh, the teapot is a symbol of togetherness and friendship, of telling stories and sharing confidences. As a student he studied tea ware in the V&A collection and is interested in exploring global networks and the meeting of the East and West in the act of drinking tea.\n\r\nGolden Moment Teapot is part of a new series of works in which he has been exploring tea drinking and the meeting of cultures. This work is made from anodised aluminium, in two halves and has been hand raised. The aluminium has been anodised and the two sheets have been chemically bonded together.\r\n","physicalDescription":"Golden Moment Teapot is made from gold anodised aluminium in two halves.
