The museum’s archives capture only fragments of these objects’ histories. Documents record their arrival between about 1865 and 1930 through private donors and various intermediaries but give little sense of how their displacement impacted their places of origin and the people who live there. Their journeys reflect imperial histories that have shaped the V&A’s collections. \n\nBorn and raised in Tehran, Allahyari expands on these partially told tales. She deliberately combines fact and fiction to speculate on the encounters that have been lost, the knowledge that has been diverted and the cultural histories rendered inaccessible. She lifts fragmented stories beyond the confines of the museum, imagining how the past could have been different and the possibilities the future may hold","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Allahyari, Morehshin","id":"AUTH387926"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"DOP","id":"THES291628"},"images":["2025PK4929"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"DAMS","id":"THES280561"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Digital video","id":"THES396508"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2024","earliest":"2024-01-01","latest":"2024-12-31"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"V&A commission supported by the Manitou Fund, Kevin, Hananh and Rosemary McNeely.
