He completed a series of experiments and trials in the development of his new clay bodies: creamware, jasperware and black basalt. Around 5000 trials were created in the process of perfecting the creamware alone, and this was repeated for jasperware. Each trial is carefully numbered to correspond with an entry in Josiah’s experiment books which was written in code because of the risk of industrial espionage. ","physicalDescription":"Wooden tray containing around 90 ceramic trials for perfecting the creamware body and glaze, each trial is individually numbered.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Josiah Wedgwood and Sons","id":"A1450"},"association":{"text":"manufacturers","id":"AAT25230"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"wood","id":"AAT11914"},{"text":"ceramic","id":"AAT235507"}],"techniques":[{"text":"glazing","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Wooden tray holding ceramic trials","categories":[{"text":"V&A Wedgwood Collection","id":"THES276060"},{"text":"ceramics","id":"THES48982"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"WED","id":"THES270009"},"images":["2024NW7832"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES382071"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"trials","id":"AAT69665"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Etruria","id":"x33200"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1760","earliest":"1760-01-01","latest":"1760-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"V&A Wedgwood Collection.
