Models of the ewers were originally supplied to the Wedgwood factory by plaster cast and model maker John Flaxman Senior (1726 – 1795), in 1775. The original designs were possibly copied or cast from models by Claude Michel (1738-1814). The ewers have appeared in various ceramic bodies made by the Wedgwood factory including Black Basalt, Jasper, Queen's Ware, gilded bone china and majolica.","physicalDescription":"Black basalt ewer, Bacchus sitting on the neck of the vessel holding the horns of a ram's head.
