He was the brother of Zeus and Hades, and was given dominion over the sea. Models of the ewers were originally supplied to the Wedgwood factory by plaster cast and model maker John Flaxman Senior (1726 – 1795), in 1775. The original designs were possibly copied or cast from models by Claude Michel (1738-1814) The ewers have appeared in various ceramic bodies made by the Wedgwood factory including Black Basalt, Jasper, Queen's Ware, gilded bone china and majolica.","physicalDescription":"Black basalt ewer, a Neptune sitting on the neck of the vessel holding the mane of a dolphin's head.
