Hill began his silversmithing apprenticeship but chose to study at the Central School of Arts and Crafts instead of completing his articles. During his studies, he was awarded all of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’ scholarships available and the Company acquired a cigarette box he made to commemorate the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Hill subsequently became a freelance designer with one of his most significant commissions being the Ascot Gold Cup of 1939 for Elkington.\n\r\nFollowing World War II, he combined teaching with designing, first at his alma mater, which later became part of the Sir John Cass School of Art. In 1946, the Bank of England commissioned him to design dishes for presentation to various institutions and individuals. He also received commissions from City livery companies, Oxbridge and Cambridge Colleges, public bodies, private and corporate clients, and the Royal Family. After the 1953 Coronation, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh presented the Archbishop of Canterbury with an 18-carat gold communion set designed by Hill as a gesture of thanks for officiating at the ceremony. This design is for the C.J. Vander, an important silversmith and retailer, founded by Cornelius Joshua Vanderpump (1837-1904) in 1886 and based in London. The firm produced a wide range of high-quality silverware, jewellery and civic plate such as trophies. Hill worked for C. J. Vander from around 1950 to 1970.\r\n","physicalDescription":"A pencil drawing of a trophy featuring a coat of arms and a laurel decorated finial.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Hill, Reginald","id":"AUTH407632"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"C.
