In the late 1970s she joined an all-girl band called The Bodysnatchers alongside Nicky Summers, Jane Summers (no relation to Nicky), Penny Layton, Stella Barker, Miranda Joyce and Sarah Jane Owen. \n\r\nAfter performing their first concert at a pub in northwest London in November 1979, The Bodysnatchers signed to Jerry Dammers’ 2 Tone Records label in early 1980. Their original material often addressed contemporary social and political issues, particularly around gender equality. \n\r\nAs was common in the 2 Tone genre, The Bodysnatchers regularly performed covers of classic reggae, ska and Rock Steady tracks with a punk-influenced twist. The group’s first official single release was ‘Let’s Do Rock Steady’, a cover of reggae musician Dandy Livingstone’s 1967 track of the same name. Within one month of releasing the single in March 1980, The Bodysnatchers had performed it twice on British music television show <i>Top of the Pops</i>. \n\r\nDakar wore this pair of boots with a black and white shift dress for the group’s first appearance on <i>Top of the Pops</i>, and other live performances including an appearance on another music entertainment show, <i>Alright Now</i>. The monochromatic ensemble encapsulated the 2 Tone aesthetic, which was influenced by Jamiacan Rude Boy style and sixties Mod aesthetics with smart tailoring and sharp silhouettes. The design of these boots is likely based upon a pair designed in 1965 by the French fashion designer André Courrèges (see T.111&amp;A-1974).  \n\n","physicalDescription":"A pair of calf-length boots that have been painted white.
