The case rectangular shaped and wide but shallow. The front of the case is removable, and is clasped onto the main compartment with four silver metal butterfly closures. There are various coloured pieces of tape and stickers stuck to the case, and silver metal handles on the top and sides. Both the main case and removable front are lined with pale yellow foam inside. On the foam lining the inside of the removable front there are hand-drawn diagrams in black and red pen indicating the placement of the lights on the front layer. \n\r\n<b>Parts 3 -4: Foam and board inserts</b>\nTwo lightweight wooden boards, each with foam glued to one side of them, which are layered throughout the flight case to seperate the lights. Each have hand-drawn diagrams in red and black pen which indicate the positioning of the lights within the layer, both on the foam side and the wooden side of the board. \n\n<b>Parts 5-9: 'BOWIE' lights </b>\nFive black-painted wooden letters, spelling out 'BOWIE', each with round sockets for lightbulbs at regular intervals across/ around the letter. The back of each light socket, on the reverse of the letter, is secured with black electrical tape and connects to a blue thin wire. These wires are stapled in place, and lead down to the bottom of the letter, where they join to feed into one or two thick black rubber cables, which are secured with a metal bracket. This wires end in three pin plastic plug head. Each plug head has its letter written in white pen on it. Each letter also has two horizontal metal bars attached to the back. \r\n\r\n<b>Parts 10-18: Metal Brackets</b>\r\nNine L-shaped silver metal brackets with bolts and screws attached to one end. \n\n<b>Parts 19-23: Stands</b>\nFive black-painted, three-pronged metal stands made to hold the letter lights. Each has a horizontal metal bar connecting two of the legs. This length is a different width depending on the letter it is intended to hold. June to October 2002, David Bowie embarked on a five month long tour to promote his album <i>Heathen</i>. Bowie closed the tour in October with a set of shows in the five different boroughs of New York City; often referred to as the <i>NYC Marathon Tour.</i> These closing shows were performed in smaller, more intimate venues. \r\nThe entire tour featured a far more minimalist, stripped down set design than prior Bowie tours. The stage had no set pieces, and instead was bathed in blue and purple light with a backdrop of these large 'BOWIE' lights.\nBowie worked with lighting designer Tom Kenny on the <i>Heathen Tour. </i>Bowie and Kenny had began working together in 1999, and Kenny served as his lighting designer on all of Bowie's subsequent tours.
