It is a portable modular analog synthesizer with a built-in keyboard and sequencer, and a patch pin matrix. Brian Eno bought this particular synthesizer in 1974, and used it to record his own albums including <i>Discreet Music</i> (1975).\n\nBrian Eno went on to co- produce, with Tony Visconti,  David Bowie's so-called 'Berlin Trilogy' of albums -<i> Heroes, Low and Lodger -</i>  and heavily utilised this synth to create the atmospheric electronic sound landscapes that characterised these albums. There is a manual for this synthesizer which is held in DBA/18/4/7.\n\nBrian Eno gifted this synthesizer to David Bowie in 1999.  Eno enclosed with it a letter in which he expands on the history and use of the synth, which is held in DBA/11/20. The letter asks that Bowie 'Look after it.
