The duo draw inspiration from a range of sources including American iconography, Pop Art, Postmodernism and Memphis and have undertaken projects for Alessi, Swatch, Flos and Vitra. \n\nAmong their most memorable designs are Strap Furniture (1999), made of discarded polypropylene strapping tape wrapped around a wooden frame; Rubber Band Clock (2000) comprising six colour bands stretched over a white ceramic plate holding the clock; Salvation (2000), a series of ceramic pieces found in thrift shops and assembled into sculptural compositions; Missing Monuments (1995-2001), miniature replicas of famous buildings that no longer exist. The Buildings of Disaster (1997-2008) and Buildings of Disaster Redux (2021-) series are a limited edition of miniature replicas of famous structures where a tragic event has taken place. Both series illustrate how buildings have the capacity to become sites of collective memory and cultural significance, and symbolic of trauma and conflict. \n\nThis model represents the Notre Dame fire disaster when a fire broke out in the roof space of the cathedral in 2019. By the time the fire was extinguished, most of the roof and the spire of the 800-year-old building had collapsed, while the interior suffered a lesser damage. After five years of restoration, the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris reopened on 7/8 December 2024.\n\r\nBoym Partners have received many awards including a National Design Award for Product Design (2009) and their work is held by The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Their monograph, ‘Curious Boym: Design Works’ was published in 2002 by Princeton Architectural Press. \r\n","physicalDescription":"An architectural model depicting Notre Dame without its spire","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Boym Partners Inc","id":"AUTH407623"},"association":{"text":"Designers","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"nickel","id":"AAT11028"}],"techniques":[{"text":"casting","id":"AAT53104"},{"text":"model-making","id":"AAT53619"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Bonded nickel","categories":[{"text":"Architecture","id":"THES48993"},{"text":"Architectural models","id":"THES274433"},{"text":"Monuments","id":"THES252966"},{"text":"Women architects","id":"THES286422"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2025PG4526","2025PG4527","2025PG4530","2025PG4528","2025PG4529"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLE","id":"THES49657"},"free":"","case":"SB","shelf":"7","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"architectural model","id":"x44244"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"New York (City)","id":"x29030"},"association":{"text":"Made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"E.85-2025","id":"O1784152"},"association":"Series"},{"object":{"text":"E.87-2025","id":"O1784154"},"association":"Series"}],"creditLine":"Gift of Robert Sherwood Thill in honour of L.
