After studying photographic laboratory skills in London, he worked as a studio assistant before embarking on his career as a freelance photographer. He hosted the BBC television show <i>Dance Energy</i> from 1990 to 1993.\n\nNormski photographed British rapper Derek Boland, known professionally as Derek B, for the cover of his 1988 single ‘Good Groove’. Boland (1965-2009) began his musical career aged 15 as a DJ on pirate radio stations, including KISS. After releasing his first single, ‘Rock the Beat’, in 1986, Boland went on to become one of the UK’s first hip-hop stars and was the first British rapper to perform on Top of the Pops in 1988. He was also one of the first British rappers to break the American charts.
